Writing is my first love, my first business, and my first path to healing. When I was eight years old, my mother introduced me to writing as a way to process my emotions after recognizing that I was a deeply sensitive child. She did not just give give me a pretty glitzy diary and pen, she planted the seed for what remains to be a lifelong practice of self-discovery, resilience, and emotional freedom for me.
By the age of nine, I had become an entrepreneur, writing, printing, and selling my short stories in Brooklyn, where my mother worked during the 1980s. Her belief in me gave me the courage to share my creativity with the world.
I remember trying to give her some of the money from each story sold, but she would never accept it. In my mind, she deserved every penny because the dream began with her encouragement, her support, and even the computers at her job, that made my printing my stories possible. Even then, I understood the value of gratitude, generosity, and doing business with integrity.
As I matured in age and self-awareness, writing evolved into much more than a creative passion. Journaling and poetry became sacred practices that carried me through depression, grief, heartbreak, trauma, disappointment, joy, love, discovery, and life’s many transitions.
My pen, many papers and books written on or in, became my sanctuary; a place where I could release pain, find clarity, and transmute my pain into my passions then into purpose driven creative work.
Long before I discovered yoga as a physical practice, my mother had already introduced me to its essence. Through the seeds of unconditional love my mother planted during my early childhood and encouragement she gave me to express myself authentically even if it needed to be written, she taught me core foundations of wholistic well-being: self-awareness and healing from within. In many ways, my mother was my very first yoga teacher.
Today, I honor my mother my grandmother and great grandmother by sharing the life saving practice that writing is, my creativity, and courageous transformation. These are the women who supported me in the beginning, not just through words, through actions and unyielding support in various seasons of my life.
Whether through writing, teaching, or creating spaces for people to reconnect with themselves, my mission is to inspire people to embrace themselves, write more, trust their inner wisdom, and recognize that healing often begins with the courage to express what lives within from this life and or the ones before. No one enters this world free of soul work.
I am forever grateful to my mommy for planting the seed that opened me to exploring my creativity. Her love for writing became my inheritance, and her journey inspires the knowledge I seek and transmute to wisdom.
